¿POR QUÉ VIAJAN LOS ESTUDIANTES?
Está de moda viajar más que nunca, y los estudiantes se han subidos a esta ola que no para de crecer!
Los viajes estudiantes, académicos o lingüísticos, se consideran un plus importante en un CV. Haber estado fuera de casa una temporada, conociendo otras culturas e idiomas, es imprescindible y los estudiantes y sus padres lo sabe.
Muchas familias hacen grandes esfuerzos, para que sus hijos tengan estas oportunidades de viajar y ampliar sus horizontes: desde los programas de High School a los de ERASMUS
Hace poco, me reuní con unas estudiantes americanas y me comentaron lo que esperaban al realizar su intercambio en Barcelona. Algunas de sus intenciones se cumplieron, otras no, aquí os dejo el resumen de los 5 puntos más relevantes de la entrevista, sobre que les llevó a viajar y estudiar en otro país:
¿Cuáles fueron los motivos por los que decidisteis viajar a otro país?
1. LEAVING THE COMFORT ZONE
In the case of American students, getting out of their comfort zone, taking advantage of the opportunity offered by their university to travel, was what they dedicated to packing their bags.
They wanted to know how people lived in Spain, to know the culture, the country and its people.
They were able to make friends with Spanish students after a few weeks in Spain, thanks to the fact that they attended a university together with other Spanish students.
Students who stay with families tend to find it easier to integrate, as this can help and advise them.
Going to a school or university with students from the country is also another important way to adapt and meet students, although the ideal would be to be able to meet and contact them before arriving in the host country.
2. KNOW THE CULTURE OF THE COUNTRY
The family where these students stayed was not the typical family they would have liked and they did not have the opportunity to get to know the country at the hands of their hosts.
Undoubtedly, the best way to learn how to live in the host country is to live in a family that accepts and welcomes you as one of the others. These give the student an unintentional patina of the culture and traditions of their country: they will eat typical local food, live the customs first hand and will be able to show them the most emblematic places that rarely appear in tourist guides.
Each country has its singularities, knowing them from the hand of a local has no point of comparison.
3.PODER VIAJAR POR EL PAÍS O A OTROS PAÍSES CERCANOS
Todos los estudiantes buscan aprovechar al máximo su estancia en el extranjero, mis amigas no fueron una excepción y pudieron viajar a París y Roma. El estudiante que se traslada de país desea seguir aprendiendo y conociendo. Le gusta aprovechar fines de semana o periodos de vacaciones para viajar y moverse por los alrededores: otros países, otras ciudades, etc. Busca flexibilidad, comodidad y apoyo.
4.CRECIMIENTO PERSONAL
Es una etapa de descubrimiento y aprendizaje, de crecimiento personal. Para un estudiante cada año es un cambio de vida, cada curso diferente al anterior, nuevos profesores, materias, eso le motiva para mejorar, para pasar pagina y buscar lo mejor. Hacer nuevas amistades, conocer gente nueva, diferente. Conocerse en nuevas circunstancias moldeará su personalidad, le hará tolerante y flexible.
Mis estudiantes americanas han tenido que lidiar con problemas y circunstancias que en su país no hubieran tenido, así que sin duda se han llevado una maleta ¡llena de experiencias valiosas!
5.LIBERTAD
Salir de casa, cambiar las normas, los horarios o el control es muchas veces lo que buscan los alumnos que desean viajar a otro país. El estudiante busca experimentar para seguir creciendo, la libertad es parte de su crecimiento personal, organizarse, espabilarse y “sacarse las castañas del fuego” forma parte de la adquisición de esa libertad.
